Why Telepresence?

August 25, 2008

They say Rome was not built in a day, so bear with me here. If you’re following my entries, we went through the ‘what is telepresence’ and before we can get to the really good stuff (like all those futuristic technologies swirling around in my head, scribbled on stickies all over my office and being tested in the Teliris R&D lab) I would be remiss to skip over the ‘why’ behind the jump in telepresence deployments all over the world in the last few years. Obviously, we all know about the fuel price hikes and the economic slowdown that has every company large and small scrambling for ways to cut costs etc, but adopting telepresence is a different way of doing business over distance, a more effective way (not just in my esteemed opinion, but talk to any analyst out there today and they are all in agreement). Most importantly, its critical in a world where you can no longer count on air travel as a ‘for sure’ option. Maybe you will eventually get there, but judging from my last experience, the only way to alleviate the frustration of delays and cancellations is to 1) drink heavily 2) freak out on the airline attendant who keeps smiling brightly as he tells you your flight is cancelled, all the hotels are booked and that you will certainly enjoy walking around the city all night or 3) AVOID IT COMPLETELY!!! I know, I know, you don’t even have to click on my newest video entry, I’ve already convinced you of the value of telepresence, but if you have any doubt, any question, listen up because I’m telling you without even a millisecond of hesitation, telepresence is here to stay…

  1. Great video Teliris!

You’ve worked hard as the pioneer of the technology and to keep Teliris “telepresence” out front all these years. Your time is now.

    Congratulations!
